Cover can be provided for sports and leisure equipment (such as scuba diving, golf, fishing and camping equipment) under the personal possessions / all risks section of a home contents insurance. Cover applying anywhere in the United Kingdom and a specified period aboard. May be 60 or 90 days worldwide in each insurance period.

There may be a maximum total value that an insurer will cover, with a single item limit. Generally sports and leisure equipment will be specified items listed on the policy schedule.

Two significant terms usually apply to sports and leisure equipment. Damage and loss whilst in use being excluded. A condition may apply to items kept in an unattended vehicle. An example as follows:

Unattended Vehicles Clause
This insurance does not cover theft or disappearance of valuables and personal effects from any vehicle unless at the time of theft or disappearance:-
a) The items had been stored out of sight within a locked boot or compartment; and
b) All the protections fitted to the vehicle had been put into full and effective operation;
and Furthermore, this insurance does not cover theft or disappearance of valuables and personal effects from any vehicle that was unattended at the time of the theft or disappearance between the hours of 23:00 and 07:00.
